I decided I wanted to share more about my life through Confessions. Hopefully you can sympathize with me on some of these or they will at least help you get to know me a little bit better. I must start off by saying that I am stealing this concept from one of my best friends, Meagan Hostetler. You can view her midweek confessions on her blog, Night Owls and Early Birds.
I MISS DIET COKE. If you know me, you know that I drink a lot of diet coke. A lot. It’s my morning coffee, I don’t start my day without it. It’s my happy place. If I’m having a rough day, I just grab a diet coke and I’m good to go. I don’t even discriminate against what form it comes in, can, bottle, fountain, it can even be flat. Don’t get me wrong, there are some that are better than others, when you throw Zaxby’s or Sonic’s ice in the mix that’s a plus and there’s something about the fountain at McDonalds I do enjoy. I do wander to Diet Dr. Pepper every now and then (especially at Chick-Fil-A that caffeine free stuff just won’t work for me) I do, however, draw the line at Pepsi. I do not do Pepsi. Diet Coke is just one of my favorite things. I would say I am addicted… or I was.
I was thrilled when I found out I was pregnant, but the hardest part has been giving up my dear friend. I still remember asking my doctor how many I can have, his response… ONE. One? Really? I knew I’d have to cut back, but yikes. For you coffee drinkers, imagine having only one cup. ONE. For those of you who drink diet coke, you’ve probably given it up a time or two and the caffeine withdraw can be horrible. I’ve been lucky, very lucky, to have such an amazing pregnancy so far. My first trimester was pretty great compared to most. I didn’t get the morning sickness or any of the other terrible first trimester symptoms, but I did get the fatigue and the up all night for the restroom. So let me just tell you how good of a mood I was in those first couple weeks. Up all night and no caffeine. Rough.
Ok, so what can I drink? Lemonade? nope, too much sugar. Sprite? nah, too much sugar. OJ? Fruit Punch? Juice box? Sugar again. What about all those diet caffeine free beverages, or even Caffeine free diet coke. Well thats just extra aspartame. (Now, I know diet coke has aspartame but I’m willing to over look it for the caffeine. Somehow it seems silly to me to drink aspartame without the added bonus of caffeine.) No matter what your looking at to drink there’s something that make you feel like you’re being a bad mom. I’m feeding my baby too much caffeine, aspartame, or sugar. So what’s left? Water. Water? What’s that? The most water I drank before I got pregnant was when I was brushing my teeth. I know that sounds horrible, but it was true. I feel like water was my enemy before and now it’s all I drink. I do have my one diet coke a day, and it’s my favorite part of the day. It’s sad how much I enjoy it. For those of you who had a terrible first trimester, I must sound like the most ungrateful person ever. As I sit here with my large bottle of water, I am grateful. So Grateful. But I still miss it.
We’ll be finding out what the gender of our little one soon and no matter what it is I will be celebrating with a SMALL diet coke.
